  • About The Role

  • Help ensure the voices of young people and families across Aotearoa are heard

The Young Aotearoa Survey is seeking Community Engagement Contractors to support a major nationwide study of young people's wellbeing and experiences.

We are committed to building a workforce that reflects New Zealand's diverse communities and strongly encourage applications from Pacific peoples.

Contractors will engage with households from all backgrounds. We value the cultural knowledge, languages, relationships, and community connections that Pacific peoples bring to our team and the positive contribution these strengths make to participant engagement.

    About the role

    Contractors will:

    • Visit randomly selected households within assigned areas

    • Introduce the survey and explain its purpose

    • Build trust and rapport with young people, parents, caregivers and families

    • Support eligible participants to take part

    • Use project-provided systems and resources

    • Follow project protocols, ethical requirements and safeguarding procedures

    We're looking for people who:

    • Enjoy engaging with people from all walks of life

    • Build trust quickly and respectfully

    • Have strong communication skills

    • Are organised and reliable

    • Can work independently within project requirements

    • Work well with people from diverse backgrounds

    • Hold a driver's licence and have reliable transport

We welcome expressions of interest from people involved in:

    • Pacific community organisations

    • Churches and faith communities

    • Education

    • Health and wellbeing services

    • Youth programmes

    • Sport and recreation

    • Cultural groups

    • Community leadership roles

We particularly welcome applications from people connected to Samoan, Tongan, Cook Islands Māori, Niuean, Tokelauan, Fijian, Tuvaluan, Kiribati and other Pacific communities.

We're looking for people who can confidently engage with all households while bringing the strengths, perspectives and cultural understanding Pacific peoples contribute to our team.
